After the last time I posted, I went home to Vermont to visit my parents. They had just gotten back from Alaska - their 35th anniversary present to themselves.
I was struck - almost blinded - by how green everything was. Green and calm. The sun was bright yellow, the sky was pure blue, like a crayon drawing.
I also noticed a distinct lack of rushing. Everything got done, but people treated themselves well while they were doing whatever they needed to do. There seemed to be a certain basic respect for time and for themselves, for the quality of things, that is very much lacking closer to NYC.
Now I am packing for another trip. This weekend there is a family reunion at my grandfather's in Maine, then I am going to dance camp. I'm a little worried about not seeing Scott for three weeks, but mostly I am so excited to have an adventure. I need to be lifted out of my daily world, unmoored, let new thoughts and breezes flow through me.
